Five Rumours about Wister
Rumours may be known by characters who are not from and have not visited Wister. This is just a small sample of rumours you might have heard about this once-great country.
- Wister is full of angry young nobles who don’t want to be like their parents.
- Wister are just biding their time until they are ready to attack their neighbours and create another Kingdom of Greater Alvaron!
- Wister and Milcier only pretended to fall out and are now secretly working together as allies. If you ally with one “against” the other, you can be sure that both are about to destroy you!
- If you meet a tinker in Wister, they are almost certainly a badger beastkin.
- One day, the secret lost heir to the throne of Wister will return to reclaim their birthright!
Five Facts about Wister
For your OC reference, or IC if your character is from Wister or has visited it in the past.
- Former Power: Wister was once the founding nation of the first ‘Kingdom of Greater Alvaron’, which conquered and subjugated much of the rest of the island and warred against Durholme before collapsing into much smaller states upon the death of King Edward of Wister.
- Rivals with Milcier: As the founders of the first ‘Greater Alvaron’, Wister viewed the 1298 Milcian re-creation of Greater Alvaron dubiously. With Milcier’s loss of power in 1305, Wister rejected continuing Milcian control and elected to be ruled by a noble council instead of the Milcian royal family, feeling that the latter had been proven unworthy. The country has seen a great increase in the fervency of Mallanite worship, and the near-total repudiation of St John.
- Hostile to Durholme: Durholme was partially responsible for the deaths of several of Wister’s former monarchs and the destruction of both Kingdoms of Greater Alvaron. Many of the parents of the current Wister council members were assassinated or killed in battle by Durholme forces, leaving their children deeply embittered and distrustful towards Durholme and its allies.
- Legal Limitations: In Wister, being undead or creating undead is illegal, as is demonology and the worship of Azrael, Bast, St John, Vivamort, and the Dominion of Vortex. Trolls are not considered to be people and do not have rights in Wister. Beastkin and true elves, though agreed to be people, are second-class citizens.
- Contacts Over the Waves: Wister’s turn away from Greater Alvaron has led to closer relations with Gavarrl, only a short distance away over the sea. Perhaps the Wisterians find Gavarrl’s focus on legality and stability reassuring compared to their Alvaric neighbours; in any case the two nations have been deepening their ties.
