- Every seventh person you meet in Athryn is actually a Fae in disguise!
- In Athryn, every minor tradition serves a mystical purpose.
- Orcs once invaded Athryn to conquer it, but they became bound to the country just like everyone else!
Five Facts about Athryn
For your OC reference, or IC if your character is from Athryn or has visited it in the past.
- Land of Four Kingdoms: Athryn is divided into four historic kingdoms: Chanat, Ilsti, Lyennis, and Matair. Each of these have slightly different laws, customs, and religions.
- Land of the Fae: The land of Athryn sees more Fae more commonly than anywhere else in the world. Some allege these creatures to be demons, but every Athryan knows that to call a Fae a demon is asking for that Fae’s eternal enmity. Peace with the Fae is kept by the Druids, who mediate with them.
- Differing Religions: While Ilsti is Johnite, Matair (its rival) professes the Mallanite faith, and Lyennis is predominantly Morvanian. St John is widespread across the island even outside Ilsti, as is the Druidic faith.
- Undeath-Wrought Turmoil: During the march of the Lord Undying across the land in 1307, Chanat bowed to the undead horde following an orcish uprising and, according to Queen Maeve, the turning of King Lachlann into an undead monster. Following the slaying of the King by adventurers from Durholme, who had previously rescued the Queen, Chanat collapsed into anarchy. Queen Maeve continues to attempt to restore order to her kingdom, aided by her neighbours as they can under the High Queen’s direction.
- Bound by Tradition and Magic: The power of the High Queen is both ceremonial and legal, backed by ancient power and ritual.
