Prophecy (7 XP) [Root Skill]
Required for: Premonition
This skill may be bought in ascending levels [to level VIII].

This skill represents the character being able to receive visions in some manner. Many prophets foretell the future by looking at the stars, but other methods such as prophetic dreams, card readings or examining the entrails of sacred mewlips have all been tried. Visions gained from Prophecy are not direct messages from the gods or similar beings. All methods of prophetic divination must be approved by the refs.

As a minor action, a character with Prophecy I-IV may search for visions but has no way to choose which events they will learn of. This information is broadly equivalent to the character having a knowledge skill at their Prophecy level (up to IV) regarding an important event.

A character with Prophecy V-VIII may instead choose to receive a vision, roughly equivalent to a Knowledge of 4 levels lower than their Prophecy skill, about an event of their choice.

This action can only be done once per downtime.

Premonition (3 XP)
Requires: Prophecy of equal level
This skill may be bought in ascending levels [to level VIII]

The character is able to spend a major action on preparations to protect their life. They gain access to the options below, but only up to their level of Premonition. The character may pick which preparation to make as their major action.

The specifics (target, spell, when the effect begins, etc.) are chosen when the character decides OC in uptime to begin the effect, as if their foresight had prepared them for that moment.

The preparations of characters with up to Premonition IV for are available from the downtime deadline, and expire after a week. Characters with Premonition V-VIII must use their preparations within the month, and can stack multiple preparations.

Premonition I: Gain one point of DAC for one unbroken hour, begun at the moment the character decides OC to activate the effect.
Premonition II: May call Discern Intent once. The target of Discern Intent (range 30′) should answer with “Help”, “Harm”, or “Neutral” in line with their intentions towards the caster.
Premonition III: May use any Premonition spell or miracle of up to fourth level once.
Premonition IV: May call through damage against one specified target.
Premonition V: Gain one point of DAC for one specified day.
Premonition VI: May use Discern Intent at will for one specified day. This functions as for Premonition II.
Premonition VII: May use any Premonition spell or miracle once.

Note that only one major and one minor action from the Prophecy and Premonition skills may be taken each downtime.

Note that the Premonition spells or miracles replicated by this skill are cast at “Level Sufficient”.

Premonition spells and miracles are:

  • Spells up to 4th level:
    • Detect Magic
    • Detect Heat
    • Detect Inanimate
    • Talk to Animals
    • Discern Nature of Creature
    • Farsight
    • Discern Immunities
  • Spells above 4th level:
    • Talk to Sentient
    • Scrying
    • Elbereth’s Sweet Whispers
    • With One Voice
    • Comprehension

Other new spells may also be Premonition spells. Ask a ref.

Premonition miracles include all those in the Divination domain, up to the allowed level.

All miracles and spells granted by Premonition must be cast with a 5-word minimum vocal approved by the refs.

Priests with Premonition who also have the Battle Group skill may cast Battle Group miracles granted by Premonition on their battle group.
