5 Rumours About the Burning Lands

Rumours may be known by characters who are not from and have not visited the Burning Lands. This is just a small sample of rumours you might have heard about this harsh desert region, in which only the hardiest can survive.

  1. The Burning Lands is impossibly hot. Any non-Pyrokin touching the sand would instantly cook as if in a hot oven! There are even places where water will boil instantly inside your very water bottle!
  2. It is impossible to live without moving in the desert as the sands shift every day, burying anything people try to build.
  3. There is a secret hidden oasis around which stands a mighty city, but to even speak of such a thing means death for all outsiders. This is why no-one has ever been there.
  4. Kakatal, Elemental Lord of Fire, sometimes visits the Burning Lands in person!
  5. Once the Burning Lands was a jungle paradise, but it was cursed by a demon of tremendous power after an incautious mortal summoned it thinking they could control the fell monster. Now it is impossible for anything to grow there.

5 Facts About the Burning Lands

For your OC reference, or IC if your character is from the Burning Lands or has visited them in the past.

  1. A Vast Desert: The most southerly region of the world, the Burning Lands is a sandswept desert. It is hotter year-round here than any other region’s summer.
  2. No Fixed Abode: The desert is so harsh that almost no group of people can remain in one place for long. The majority of its inhabitants wander the desert as nomadic tribes, trading or fighting as and when they encounter one another.
  3. By the Will of Kakatal: The people of the Burning Lands are predominantly Pyrokin, and they worship the Elemental Lord Kakatal in the volatile Way of Fire.
  4. Violence as Faith: Passionate combat or destruction are acts of devotion to Kakatal, and all who espouse these virtues and honour the Lord of the Flames may find a welcome amongst the tribes.
  5. Chosen of Fire: The most respected figure in the desert is the Koen, who takes this title by demonstrations of Kakatal’s favour. The current Koen claims to be chosen by the Elemental Lord as ‘Avatar of Fire’.
