Five Rumours about Rakvand
Rumours may be known by characters who are not from and have not visited Rakvand. This is just a small sample of rumours you might have heard about this harsh and icy country.
- Rakvand is made entirely out of ice. No-one can live there except for dwarves, who burrow tunnels in the ice. They always have to be busy digging new tunnels, as their body heat slowly melts the ice so that if they stayed in old tunnels, they would drown.
- The Everstorm was a warning sent by the gods to tell mortals not to tamper with Rakvand. Now that it is gone, the perilous lights in the northern sky will surely bewitch sailors and lead them to their doom in vast numbers!
- A hideous undead army rose from Rakvand and went to ravage the isles of Athryn and Alvaron. This could happen again at any time, so all seafaring nations should be on their guard!
- Nobody has ever met anybody who came from Rakvand. Nobody actually lives there – all the dwarves are actually undead, but no-one can tell because they’re all wrapped up against the cold.
- Attempting to colonise Rakvand was what caused the collapse of the Rubran Empire in antiquity!
Five Facts about Rakvand
For your OC reference, or IC if your character is from Rakvand or has visited it in the past.
- Empty Wasteland: Rakvand is inhabited by little more than a few hardy dwarves and is a land of vicious ice and hard ground.
- The Aurora Borealis: An outstanding light display takes place above Rakvand, with great multicoloured veils swirling through the sky. Those who have seen it rarely forget.
- Ravaged by Undead: An undead army led by the dread Lord Undying occupied Rakvand for several months, stripping it of small ancient structures that some say may have been made of rare and valuable substances, as well as strip-mining deposits of elemental metal. In the worst-ravaged areas, the dead of Rakvand are known to be restless, and may raise themselves up to wander even without any further necromancy…
- The Strange Ship: Twice a year a strange ship comes and takes those who wish to leave to a new life elsewhere…
- Remnant of Rubis: There are signs that Rakvand was once an outpost of the Rubran Empire, which goes some way towards explaining the presence of dwarves here.
