Five Facts about Marukh
For your OC reference, or IC if your character is from Marukh or has visited it in the past.
- Gods as Demons: In Marukh the Spiritual Gods are believed to be demonic in nature, and the worship of these gods is forbidden on pain of death.
- Elite Bloodlines: The Sultan and the wider nobility claim a bloodline that is blessed by elementalism. This blessed bloodline is what gives them the right to rule.
- Elemental Shamanism: The religion of Marukh claims that there are blessed elemental spirits who are summoned by the priests to aid the world. Elemental magic and communing with the spirits are greatly respected, but also controlled, while geomancy is considered a highly dangerous art only permitted under the strict control of the Sultan.
- Strict Class Differences: In Marukh there are essentially two classes: the nobility, who have traces of divine blood; and the rest. Non-nobles are not permitted to learn magic or commune with the spirits. Nobles are encouraged to marry non-nobles to avoid inbreeding, but while their children will be nobles, the non-noble partner will never be considered noble: even though they may share a home and life with their partner and accompany them almost everywhere, they do not themself have divine blood.
- Enemy of Talaik: Neighbouring Talaik is Marukh’s greatest enemy, and the two exist in a perpetual state of simmering hostility that occasionally breaks out into outright war.
