Five Rumours about South Keidar
Rumours may be known by characters who are not from and have not visited South Keidar. This is just a small sample of rumours you might have heard about this undead-plagued, abruptly-shrunken country.
- A worshipper of Vivamort sneaked into Keidar and went undiscovered for many years, and it was this evil person who summoned the Lord Undying to invade!
- Though North Keidar was cursed by the gods, South Keidar, having remained a true and faithful nation, was protected from their wrath. Otherwise they would have destroyed the whole country.
- Everyone in South Keidar is a Johnite. They are lovely, welcoming people as long as they decide that you are worthy. If you are unworthy, however…
- When it was invaded, Keidar made a secret deal with the Lord Undying to give her its northern half so that she would leave the southern half alone.
- Somewhere in South Keidar, the unbroken bloodline of the last great Keidran dragonslayer continues to this day. If ever a dragon should threaten this land, so too will the descendant of the dragonslayer rise to defeat it. Unfortunately, the undead did not bring an undead dragon with them. If they had, they would have been immediately destroyed!
Five Facts about South Keidar
For your OC reference, or IC if your character is from South Keidar or has visited it in the past.
- A Former Peace: South Keidar remains a pleasant, pastoral land, its wide, flat plains broken only by a few gently rolling hills, although the border with North Keidar is riven by a great chasm partway along. The local population has been significantly increased in size by refugees from North Keidar who fled the undead, but what could have become a tumultuous state has been somewhat calmed, for now, by the people’s united desire to resist any further undead incursions, and one day retake their ancestral lands.
- Fiercely Independent: Keidrans have always proudly maintained their independence in the face of aggression. Although the undead that have occupied the northern half of the country since 1307 have rather dented that ideal, it is not lost, and Keidrans fervently believe that one day they will throw the undead hordes back – though for now, their effort is focused merely on holding the border.
- Guided by St John: All of South Keidar’s nobility are legally bound to follow the faith of St John or lose their status. The Johnite faith is near-universal among the populace.
- A Strange Land: It is said that Keidar was quite a different place prior to the Mists of 1299, and those few travellers who were away at the time and returned only later proclaim this loudly. Many Keidrans thought them mad, but it has produced a degree of unease with South Keidar’s neighbours even aside from the war that shattered the once-mighty kingdom of Greater Alvaron.
- Here Be No Dragons: Many Keidran myths tell of dragons, and of the heroic dragonslayers who slew the beasts. No dragons have been seen in Keidar for centuries, and the Keidrans’ national mythos makes them determined to keep it that way.
