Church Dominance: The Church of the Light is a dominant force in Teutonian politics and is one of the largest and most powerful religious organisations in the world, with sway over both high and low born citizens.
An Empire of Many Crowns: Teutonia is made up of numerous kingdoms, principalities and duchies, free cities and large towns who all swear fealty to one Emperor.
A Church Schism: Between 1295 and 1298 the Church was split into progressive and traditional factions, and was only settled into the more progressive route with the ascension of Abigail Elders as Hierophant.
Hostile to Magic: There are still some traditionalist hold outs and those that have been preached to by them that are suspicious of magic and those of other religious beliefs. Though it is not against the law to practice either.
Constant Tensions: Tensions between rulers, freedom of movement through the Empire, tensions between the Emperor and the church mean there is a constant dance of political tensions within.
